“Today has been way too rough on me. Why do they have to get so rowdy this late at night?” Trudging down the mostly silent corridor, you let out a loud yawn. You were used to inmates trying to escape, being difficult and generally not listening to what you said, but today had been especially tough. The fact that you had worked an extra shift certainly hadn't helped with your fatigue. Hardly able to keep your eyes open, you stepped into the guard's quarters and headed straight for the night guard's room. “Maybe I should get the kitchen staff to put sleeping pills in their food.” Once in the room, you didn't even bother to turn on the light before slipping off your shoes. When you turned to get into bed, however, you could see the outline of someone sleeping. Just to be sure your eyes weren't playing tricks on you, you gave them a rub. Sure enough, someone was definitely there.

After a few more seconds of your silent staring, the person shifted slightly, causing the bed to creak. “I can't sleep when you're staring at me like that. Cut it out.”

Though the room was still dark, you knew exactly who was in there with you. “Jyugo?” Taking a step closer, you placed your hands on your hips and scolded him for escaping, again. “What are you doing here? You should be in your cell. This is the third time you've escaped your cell this week, and that's just on my watch.”

“Don't talk so loud.” Pressing his face into the pillow, Jyugo let out a tired groan. “Someone is going to hear you.”

He could try all he wanted to act like you had woken him up, but you weren't buying it. It hadn't even been fifteen minutes since you had done roll call for his cell. When you had called his name, he had certainly been there. Crossing your arms, you snorted at his complaint. “Why would I care if someone hears me? You're not supposed to be here, come on.”

“So I'm only allowed to sneak in here when you want me to?” Turning his face towards you, but not showing any signs that he was actually going to get out of the bed, Jyugo narrowed his eyes. “That doesn't seem fair.”

“That was a one time thing and you would have snuck in here whether I wanted you to or not.” As the events of that day flooded your memory, you shook your head. “Actually, I never even agreed to meet you, you just assumed I would.”

All too aware of the fact that you were right, Jyugo let his eyes drift from yours. “Still-.”

Not about to listen to any more of his excuses, you cut him of before he could start. “No, nope. Don't even try. You're just wasting your breath and my time.” Hoping he would finally give up and leave, you took of your hat and placed it on the bedpost. “I'm right and you know it.”

Instead of doing as he had been told, Jyugo rolled over and cocooned himself in the blankets. “Whatever.”

“That's what I thought.” Glad he hadn't tried to argue with you, you inwardly sighed. If only he had gotten out of the bed and gone to his cell. Why did he have to make things so hard on you? Even if he did get out of bed, there was no guarantee he wouldn't try to escape. This meant that you would have to walk him all the way back, before you could get your nap. As you calculated how long this was going to take, you found yourself wanting to cry. “Come on Jyugo, you've got to get out of that bed so I can take a nap. If I don't get a little bit of sleep, and soon, I'm going to turn into a mindless zombie.”

Not bothering to move so much as an inch, Jyugo questioned you. “A zombie?”

“Yeah.” Why did he have to question everything? Why couldn't he just listen? Why did you keep giving him answers when you should have just kicked him out and drug him back to his cell? You didn't know, but you were too tired to try and figure it all out now. “Well, not a literal zombie, obviously. I just get really lethargic and my mood goes south.”

Though you couldn't see his face, you could hear the interest in his voice. “I see.”

“If you see, why aren't you getting out of the bed?” Growing desperate, you started to shake him to and fro. If he kept this up too much longer, you would have no choice but to get one of the other guards on duty to help you. You weren't even sure who else was working with you this evening, but if it was Seitarou you were going to be completely out of luck. “Come on! You're really starting to upset me.”

“But I'm tired too, and I was here first.” Shoving your hands away, Jyugo continued to be defiant. Nothing you said or did was going to make him move. “Besides, I've never seen you as anything but hyper active. I want to see you be a zombie.”

“No you don't. Trust me. I'm a really mean, grumpy zombie and no one wants to see me like that.  And if you're so tired, go sleep in your own bed.” Since shaking him wasn't working, you grabbed onto the blankets and started tugging at them. No matter how hard you pulled, they didn't budge. “This one's mine.”

As if he didn't even feel your desperate tugging, Jyugo answered flippantly. “I can't. It's too loud in there.”

“Don't start with that again.” You had heard that excuse at least a half dozen times before. Sure Rock snored and Uno ground his teeth, but it couldn't be all that bad. “Just put the earplugs I gave you in and you'll be fine.”

“They don't work.” Without warning, Jyugo suddenly pulled back the blankets with all of his strength. As soon as he did this, you toppled over, falling onto the bed and onto him. Though you were face down with your feet handing off the side of the bed, your horizontal position caused your exhaustion to kick in full force. Whether you were comfortable or not, there was no way you could make yourself move. “Get off of me.”

You tried to make yourself get up, but you couldn't. Even talking was proving to difficult. “Nope. I can't.”

“What do you mean you cant?” Wiggling under your weight, Jyugo tried to give the impression that he was unable to free himself or get out of the bed. You didn't believe even for a second that he was actually stuck beneath you. The way you were draped over him wasn't nearly enough to pin him down. If he actually wanted to leave, he could have. “Get up.”

I mean I can't.” You breathed, already slipping into sleep. “You should have left when you had the chance, because I'm  not going to move for a while.” Eyes closed, you let yourself sink into the mattress. This might not have been ideal for either of you, but at least this way you could be sure that Jyugo wouldn't try to escape. Or at least if he did try to escape, he would wake you up in the process. “Just go to sleep.”

For a second, Jyugo was silent and perfectly still. When he spoke again, there was something odd about his tone. He almost sounded embarrassed. “Are you serious?” Too far gone to make yourself speak, you managed a little nod. Letting out a loud sigh, he had little choice but to accept that he wasn't going anywhere any time soon. “You really are a horrible guard.”

You weren't the best guard there, but horrible was a little bit too strong of a word. The two of you could talk about that later though. For now, you simply hushed him. “Shh. Sleep.” Much to your surprise, and delight, Jyugo didn't argue with you. Actually, he didn't say anything at all. Unfortunately, your delight was short lived. Not even a full minute after getting Jyugo to be quiet, you heard the door creak open. Almost as soon as it opened, however, you heard it shut again. You didn't know who had just opened the door, but you knew one thing. You were going to be in trouble when you found out.
