“Yes, it's finally Friday.” Just the thought of it being Friday made your face light up, not because it was the last day before the weekend, but because of what happened on that day. Once a week, sometime around noon, you would sneak into the woods and meet with Itachi. He used to come by your house late at night, but because he would come so late, the two of you didn't have much time to spend with each other. You didn't like sneaking about, but you did like spending extra time with Itachi. And seeing as he had never once missed a meeting, you had to assume he liked spending time with you just as much. “Better get going, or he'll thing I've stood him up.” You grabbed the doorknob and quickly swung open your door. Standing there, in broad daylight, was Itachi. “W-what are you doing here? You're going to get yourself attacked.”
“It doesn't matter.” It was strange, Itachi almost sounded angry. Not at you of course, but at the entire situation. “I'm tired of sneaking around like some sort of weakling. I refuse to continue this pathetic course any longer. We shouldn't have to hide out in order to see each other, and I won't do it any longer.”
You had mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, it was incredibly sweet, and almost romantic that he was putting himself in danger to see you. On the other hand however, he was being foolish, and was risking not only his well being, but yours. “Itachi, I'm not really sure if what you're doing is the wisest option. It's really sweet, but if we get caught, we'll both be in trouble.”
“I'm prepared to deal with that. Unless, you prefer to keep this a secret even longer.” Again, you weren't sure what to think. This really had been going on a long time, and you were just as sick of the sneaking about as he was. “I need an answer.”
“I don't know. People aren't just going to accept that a member of the Akatsuki's here, especially not you. And I really doubt anything I could say or do would change their minds even a little bit.” You felt so helpless and confused.
Itachi's voice mellowed to the point of almost sounding depressed. “I'm sorry. I didn’t mean to put this kind of stress on you. I suppose I'm being selfish, expecting you to blindly agree with me.” Not sure what to do, he turned around to leave. “I give you my word, I won't visit you this way anymore.”
“That's not what I'm saying at all, and you know it.” Grabbing him by the arm, you turned Itachi back around and made him face you. “I'm just trying to figure out what we're going to do, because I have no idea.” You let out a loud, over exaggerated sigh. “Do you even have a plan, or was this a spur of the moment type of thing? I want to see you, and I want you to be able to see me whenever you want, but if we have no plan, we're doomed before we've begun.”
With a slight, barely noticeable grin, Itachi nodded. “Yes, I have a plan. Tell me, have you ever known me to barge into any situation without one?”
You shook your head slowly, still not sure if you could trust his judgment. “Well, no, but you are acting a little strange today.” Furrowing your brows together, you prepared to ask a question you hoped you wouldn't regret. “What is your plan exactly?”
“Simple, if anyone asks why I'm here, we respond truthfully. If they have a problem with that, I'll dispose of them.” That plan sounded nothing like Itachi, it wasn't even a real plan.
At first you thought that he was joking. But when he didn't show any signs that this was a joke, your jaw dropped. “Did Kisame come up with that idea, because it's absolutely horrible. We can't just go around killing people because they disagree with us. Not only is that just plain wrong, it'll start a riot.” You grasped his hands in yours and looked up at him desperately. “Please Itachi, tell me you have a better idea than that.”
Itachi was silent for a moment as he thought. “There are other ways, however, I doubt many of them would work, and the ones that would work would pull you away from your comrades. I don't want you to give up everything you love just to be with me.”
“Well I think I've seen enough.” The raspy sound of Tsunade's voice shocked you. “You're losing your touch Itachi, letting the entire village see you here.” She walked up to stand next to you and Itachi and crossed her arms in front of her. Strangely enough, she didn't look angry, or upset. Even more odd was the fact that she'd come alone.
The look on Itachi's face made you think that he had been expecting her to show up this whole time. With a gentle, relaxed voice, Itachi greeted Tsunade as they were old friends. “Lady Tsunade, how very nice to see you.”
“Be quiet Itachi, I'm already being more than generous to you. Don't make me change my mind.” Though her words were sharp, there was a strange kindness in her voice. “As I'm sure you know, there's no way I can simply pardon you for the terrible crimes you've commented. However, I would be willing to make a deal with you. If this young lady means half as much to you as you act like she does, you'll accept my offer.” Tsunade fixed her eyes on Itachi, glaring at him in the most threatening way you'd ever seen.
The corner of Itachi's mouth pulled up into a wicked smile. “You're willing to make a deal with someone like me? Honestly Lady Tsunade, I don't believe I'm the one losing my touch.”
Ignoring Itachi's comment as if he'd said nothing at all, Tsunade continued. “I as well as many others understand why you did what you did all those years ago. While your actions can't be overlooked, they can be forgiven. It's wrong to keep the two of you apart simply because of your past.” There was a sorrowful look in her eyes, it was as if she knew and understood exactly what you were going through. “If you're lucky enough, the people of this village will be as accepting and forgiving as I am.”
You spoke with your voice just barely above a whisper. “Respectfully Lady Hokage, that would take a slight miracle.”
“A miracle no, but time, effort, and a lot of work, definitely.” She breathed a deep heartfelt sigh and gave you a serious look. “Don't let what others say bother you, or make you think twice about your decisions. And one more thing.” Again, her stare turned serious. “If I find that either of you have stopped trying to make this work, I'll throw both of you in prison for treason. Am I clear?”
“Y-yes ma'am, perfectly so.” You weren't sure why she was so adamant about this, but you were more than glad she was.
“Good.” She turned around and took a couple of steps away from your home. “Do not make me regret my decision.” Not giving you anytime to respond, Tsunade continued walking, quickly disappearing behind the other houses.
“W-well, I guess everything worked out then, didn't it?” You looked up at Itachi and smiled as a light blush began taking over your cheeks. “Did you know that was going to happen?”
“No, but I'm very glad it did.” Itachi smiled and took your face in his hands. “Now, we must make sure we don't disappoint Tsunade. She has quite the horrid temper as I'm sure you know, and I would hate to see what she has in store for our punishment should we make her regret her decision.”
Your blush was now a deep red, and was covering almost all of your face. “What do you suggest we do exactly?”
Itachi smirked at your question. “What indeed.” He leaned down, lifted your face to his and placed a quick kiss on your lips. “I think I might have an idea.”
“It doesn't matter.” It was strange, Itachi almost sounded angry. Not at you of course, but at the entire situation. “I'm tired of sneaking around like some sort of weakling.
