It had taken you the better part of a year, but after a ton of reading, hard work, and snooping around, you'd finally managed to do it. Though it had been anything but easy, you managed to find the location of a single swordsman. Unfortunately, you reward for accomplishing this feat was not quite what you'd hoped for. Your clothes were a muddy soggy mess, your hair was stuck to your soaked red face and your shoes made a horrid sloshing sound with each and every step you took. The flooded landscape of the forest made each step treacherous. You couldn't count how many times you'd hurt your ankle or stepped into a sink hole in the last few days. Afraid you'd be left behind soon if you didn't say something, you called out to Suigetsu in a raspy voice. “Suigetsu, do you think we could stop walking and dry out for a while. I know for you, the rain makes for great traveling weather, but I'm not sure how much farther I can go.”

Suigetsu looked back at you and frowned, he'd been so focused on the journey, he hadn't stopped to even ask if you were okay for hours. You could tell by the driven look in his eyes that he didn't want to stop moving unless he absolutely had to. After a moment of silent debating, he nodded. “Sure. The first place we find we'll stop for a while.”

“Thanks.” You smiled weakly, allowing a bit of rain water to trickle down your chin and onto your saturated shirt. “I did tell you I wasn't cut out for this sort of thing you know. I'm only slowing you down out here, just like I knew I would.”

“You are slowing me down, but I don't mind all that much. At least I have your companionship. I'd get really bored if you weren't here.” Finally realizing just how tired you were, Suigetsu turned around and carefully helped you up the steep, sloping landscape. “I'm sure there will be a place you can rest soon. Just hold onto me, I'll keep you safe baby.” He winked teasingly as he wrapped an arm around your drenched waist.

More than happy for his help, you draped your arm over his shoulder and tried to navigate up what was now more of a cliff than a simple slope. “I really hope so. My legs are numb below the knee and my feet are covered in blisters from walking in wet shoes.”

Refusing to let his guilt show through, Suigetsu smiled Sheepishly and laughed. “I thought you were a ninja. What kind of ninja can't handle a little bit of rain?”

“Oh, I can handle a little bit of rain, but this is a lot of rain, and it's been like this for days.” Stumbling slightly on the slippery earth beneath you, you clung to him even tighter. “What's worse is the fact that we're practically walking through a bog and it's pretty darn cold out here as well. If it were any colder, we'd be walking through the snow on a sheet of ice.”

Suigetsu distorted his face to the point of looking almost cartoonish and slowly began to shake his head. “Now you're just exaggerating.”

Raising your voice just slightly due to your growing agitation, you attempted to defend your earlier claim. “No, I'm completely serious about this. A few minutes ago I could have sworn there was a bit of hail mixed in with this stinking relentless rain.”

Unable to understand your sudden hatred for all things wet, Suigetsu laughed again. “Just calm down, you're getting rain water in your mouth. You're going to end up sick if you start trying to breath in water like that.” Finally, at the top of the steep incline, he looked around the dreary looking forest for anywhere that offered even the slightest bit of shelter. Unfortunately, there was nothing in sight. “It looks like it might be a while before you can dry off. Can you keep going for a little longer or do you want to sit in the rain?”

“If I stop moving now, I'm afraid I'm not going to want to get up after I've rested. Let's just keep going for right now. Maybe we'll find something close.” The ground beneath your feet was finally flat, but it was covered in roots, vines and other things that could easily trip you up. The heavy rain and the almost black sky made this hidden danger very difficult to see.

“Alright, have it your way, but when you get mad at me because I didn't stop for you, remember that I did give you a choice.” Though the two of you had only stopped walking for a minute or two, Suigetsu quickened his pace to make up for the lost time. This new, faster pace made avoiding the obstacles even more difficult for you than before.

“Slow down already, would you? I'm going to fall and hurt myself if you keep this up for much longer.” While you understood him wanting to get there as fast as he possibly could, his carelessness was really starting to get to you.

“Fine, I'll slow down even more, Princess.” Suigetsu slowed down and  let out a loud, annoyed sigh. “Sheesh, you're really moody today aren't you?

“Moody? I'm not being moody at all. Considering the fact that I'm soaking wet, tired, hungry and really aggravated right now, I think I'm actually in a pretty great mood.” Up until this point, you mood hadn't been bad. For some reason, his innocent teasing had set you off. “I didn't want to come with you on this long, stupid journey anyway. If I am moody, it's because I have you dragging me to the middle of nowhere in a complete downpour.” At this point, you'd stopped walking altogether just so you could stand there and rant at him. “Don't stand there staring at me with your mouth open like you don't know what I'm talking about. You know what I'm saying is plenty true.”

Suigetsu really didn't seem to be paying you all that much attention at all, even as upset as you were. He seemed preoccupied by something else. In the middle of your rant, he lifted a finger to his mouth and attempted to quiet your complaints. “Be quiet, just for a minute.”

Surprised he could dismiss you that easily, your angry tone became much louder, to the point of almost yelling at him. “Don't you tell me to be quiet! I have every right to spea-.”

“Would you just be quiet already.” He slapped his hand over your open mouth and held your body against his. “I need to hear, and I can't hear anything over your complaining.” Not even a full minute later, you pushed yourself away from him and readied to restart your ranting. Before you'd even opened your mouth to speak, Suigetsu shoved you with all his might. His rough, cruel action knocked you a few feet away from him. As soon as you landed on the ground, the earth began to shake. Now covered in mud, you turned around to see Suigetsu trapped face down under a large, rotten tree. His white hair was stained brown and he didn't seem to be moving. “I told you to shut up, but you just wouldn't listen.”

“Oh my god, no.” Scrambling onto your feet, you rushed over to him and tried desperately to shove the ancient tree aside. “I'm so sorry, I didn't mean for this to happen. I should have listened to you and just been quiet like you said.”

“You're still not being quiet, though.” He laughed bitterly as he clutched onto the bottom of your shirt with his free hand. With his face still in the mud, Suigetsu let out a loud, pained moan. “You know, despite how comfortable this looks, this actually kind of hurts.”

“Filled with guilt, and regret, you stood to your feet and tried again to move the massive tree, but just like before, you had no success at all. “I can't move it, not even a little bit. I'm just not strong enough.” You sighed. “I'm sorry. I really should have listened to you. All I wanted to do was whine, and complain about everything.” Trying not to cry, you dropped down to your knees once more and lifted his head into your lap. “I'm really, really sorry.”

The hurt tone of his voice was gone, leaving you confused. “I don't know why you're getting so worked up over this. I think you must have forgotten just how awesome I am babe.” Melting into an invisible pool of liquid, Suigetsu vanished from under the tree and reappeared next to you. “It's going to take a lot more than a little tree to get rid of me. It wasn't even all that heavy really. Actually, it wasn't heavy at all.” Curious about tree, he walked away from you and began knocking on the bark. “I think it's hollow.”

“You jerk. You let me worry about you when you knew you were going to be fine.” Standing to your sore feet, you shook your head and followed him to the large hollow end of the tree. “Wow, this thing really is huge. We could both fit in there easily.”

Suigetsu nodded happily “That's exactly what I was thinking, Ladies first.” After you were inside and safe from the rain, he crawled inside and relaxed. “You see, when my woman needs to rest her feet, nature itself takes action to make sure my woman has what she wants. If only I could get the rain to obey your desires, I'd be doing pretty good.” With a toothy smile, he wrapped an arm around your wet, shivering body and kissed your cold, red cheek.

“I guess you're right.” You snuggled into him and nodded, happy to finally have some shelter from the rain. “I'm glad the problem of finding shelter is out of the way and all, but now we have another, even bigger problem.” You paused and tried to keep your eyes from wandering. “Your clothes.”
