Once every week or so, you and Grell would meet up, and try to come up with different ideas and plans, almost always ones including Sebastian or William. It was usually in an old, abandoned house he'd claimed as headquarters. It was in a rather bad part of town, so you never really looked forward to the trip there. You did however, always look forward to seeing Grell. At your headquarters, you busted through the front door expecting to see Grell's smiling face. “What's on the agenda for today Grell? Grell, where are you?”

“I'm over here, just follow the sound of my voice, I'm too depressed to move.” Grell's voice was low and mellow. He barely sounded like himself at all. Following his sighs and moans, you found him slumped over in an old rickety chair. “There you are, my dear, I wasn't sure if you were going to come today or not. Not that it really matters.”

You'd could remember ever seeing Grell so down, his lethargic state really worried you. “What's the matter? Can I help?”

“Well, for one thing, you aren't wearing that lovely red dress I bought you.” He snorted. “You could help me in that respect. But what's really bothering me, you can't help with. We've been trying for far too long already.” He leaned back in the chair, pressing the back of his hand to his head with one, large over dramatized movement. “Just leave me here in my own misery.”

You knew now that he was sulking over your past failures. “Are you finished moping yet?” Placing your hands on your hips, you assumed a strong stance, speaking forcefully and clearly. “You knew our plans would never work. We weren't ever going to get Sebastian to do anything he didn't want to do. And William isn't interested in anyone other than himself. So, knowing that you have no reason to be sad or mopey. Pick yourself up, brush yourself off, and go on with life.”

“B-but, I don't think I can.” Grell whimpered, dropping out of his chair, crawling over to you and wrapping his arms around your legs. “Mercy, child, why are you so mean to me? Can't you see I'm dying on the inside down here?”

“You're not dying, you're being over dramatic. Now please Grell, get up already, you're going to be okay, I promise.” Somewhat sympathetic now, you brushed your fingers through his long red hair. “It's not uncommon for people to watch the ones they love leave and love others. Sometimes there's just no choice in the matter. You'll just have to put those people out of your mind and move on.” You sighed, lowering your voice to just above a whisper. “I know I have.”

“What was that now deary?” Grell slowly rose to his feet and stared you dead in your eyes. “You were mumbling, mumbling is for street scum and the uneducated. Now tell me what you said, or I shall have to take action.”

“It was nothing really.” You placed a fake smile on your face and tried to walk away. Grell placed his hands on your shoulders, preventing you from leaving. “This really isn't necessary. Please just forget I mumbled anything.”

“Oh no, you are not going to get away that easily. No you aren't.” He gave you a toothy, crooked grin, as he lifted one shoulder up and tilted his head. “Now, I'm not letting you go until you tell me what you said. It would be much easier if you just came clean. If you don't, I have methods of making you talk. And you wouldn't want that now would you?”

You slowly shook your head. “No, I wouldn’t” There was no winning with Grell, so you took a deep breath and fessed up. “I was just saying that I can sympathize with you. There's a person I've liked for quite some time now, and he hasn't so much as realized I have feelings for him. It can truly be frustrating, so I understand your sadness.” Not looking at Grell for the fear he may actually understand what you were saying, you stared down at the ground beneath you. “Now you know, can you please release me now?”

There was a deafening silence for a long, long time. Grell wouldn't let go of you, nor would he stop staring at you. He was more intense than you could remember him ever being before. Finally, in a low, almost worried voice, he spoke. “You wouldn't care to elaborate on what you just said now would you? I should very much like to better understand you.”

His poking and prodding the subject was making you blush terribly. You questioned why you'd ever said anything at all. Somehow you built up enough strength to explain exactly, what you meant. “I keep coming back here not because I'm actually interested in seeing you with Sebastian, or William. Not that I wouldn't be happy for you if you finally got what you wanted. I come back because I want to spend as much time with you as possible. You very well may be flamboyant and unpredictable, maybe even a slightly sadistic. In truth, there's no one else I enjoy being around as much as I do you.” For some reason tears were willing up in your eyes. You blinked, trying to hold them back. “Now that you know, you can go ahead and laugh at me, I already expect it.”

“Why would I laugh? That was the most beautiful confession I've ever heard.” He wrapped his arms around your shoulders and squeezed you until you thought you might break. “Oh mercy, I have been so very blind haven't I? Too focused on what I can never have to see what was right in front of me all along.” Grell loosened his hug slightly and rubbed his cheek against yours. “I now understand why you put up with me for so very long.”

You weren't sure what he was saying, but that didn't keep the butterflies in your stomach from taking flight. Nor did it keep your heart from racing or your knees from shaking. “G-Grell, what are you-.” He placed his finger gently on your lips, halting your speech.

“Don't go and say I've confused you now.” Grell winked. “I think you understand exactly what I'm saying.” He let out a sigh, followed by a strange sort of chuckle. “I do hope you realize that I don't plan on changing who I am, just because of this little talk. I'm far too old to change now, so you'll just have to get used to me.” Resting his forehead on yours, he gave you another gleeful smile. “Is that understood my dear?”

“Perfectly.” You brushed his long, stray tendrils away from his face and smiled. “But between you and me, I don't want you to change a bit.”

“You may soon come to regret that statement, but for now, I think I'll hold you to it.” Grell held your chin in his fingers and placed a sweet, gentle kiss on your lips.” Now my dear, If this is going to last any time at all, we must get you out of those clothes and into the ones I bought.” He gave you a teasing wink. “I won't have a girlfriend of mine looking like an urchin. I want you to make every single person you meet envious.” Grell took your hand and made his way out of the abandon house. “I suppose we won't need to meet here ever again. There won't be any planning after today.” Now outside of the building, he turned to look at it one last time. “It's strange that something so spectacular could happen in such a dreary place.” He placed a kiss on your cheek and continued walking.

“I never thought it was all that dreary.” You blushed. “But that may just be because I was coming to see you, not the house.”

Grell laughed. “Mercy, once you open up, you are quite open aren't you?” He fanned his blushing face as he walked hand in  hand with you. “Well, now, I shall just have to explore new ways to make you blush. It is unfair that I should be doing all of the blushing after all.” His grin turned impish, worrying you slightly. “This should be, rather fun. I believe, I shall greatly enjoy this journey with you.”
