Stepping into the busy mess tent, you placed your hands next to your mouth and raised your voice above the others. “Has anyone seen Chrom?” Everyone's attention quickly turned to you. A bit of mumbling went on, but no one answered. “I haven't seen him since last night. It's not like him to leave camp without telling someone.”

“You're right.” Upset that  he hadn't noticed Chrom's absence sooner, Frederick stood to his feet. “Everyone get in groups and start looking. We'll regroup here at twilight.” Taking Stahl and Sully along with him, Frederick quickly made his way out of the tent and set out to look for Chrom.

Before you knew it, just about everyone was paired up and on their way out. Even Kellam was part of a group. “Well fine, I'll just go by myself then.” Without a horse, or a wyvern to ride, you set out on foot, trying hard to think of where Chrom might have gone. “I wonder.” Figuring it was as good a place as any to start, you headed towards the nearest town. It was at least ten miles away, but you knew Chrom could easily make it there and back in a day. Less than a mile into your walk, you began calling out for him. “Chrom, are you out here? You've got everyone out looking for you.”

The sound of people talking could just barely be heard. You knew it wasn't Chrom, but maybe, if you were lucky, they'd seen him. Alerted by your footsteps, the strangers quickly sought to avoid you. “Crap, someones coming, get moving.” As you closed in on the voices, a small group of cloaked men ran by you.

“Hey wait a second.” They didn't turn around or even acknowledge that you were there. Something wasn't right. You hastened your steps. Only a few yards from where you were standing, you saw Chrom laying flat on his back with his eyes barely open. Running to his side, you dropped to your knees and surveyed the situation. Chrom had an arrow stuck deep within his left shoulder. He had slight bruising on his face and his clothes were torn and around his wound, very bloody. “What happened?”

His voice was weak, yet somehow he still managed to smile. “I made the mistake of going out alone and not telling anyone.” He winced. “I wasn't paying attention and walked straight into an ambush.” Lifting his good arm, he took your hand in his. “I should be just fine now.”

“Of course you're going to be fine. You've taken much worse abuse than an arrow.” You gave his hand a tight squeeze and took a closer look at his wound. The arrow had pierced him much deeper than you'd originally thought. Removing it was going to prove a very difficult task. “Hold still okay? This is going to hurt.” Pulling a small, but very sharp kard from your ankle strap, you carefully made a small incision by the arrow's head. Blood trickled from the wound onto the ground below.

With the tension in the air growing, Chrom spoke in hopes of relaxing you. “I still can't believe I was bested by a group of bandits.” He snorted. “I must be losing my edge.” You didn't respond. “It's not that bad though, right?”

You grimaced at his question. “Well, for one thing, they used a poison tipped arrow, which explains why you're bleeding so badly. I've never seen an arrow head like this before, it's barbed, so it latches onto your flesh and won't come out.”

“Ah, I see. Killed by my own ignorance, not exactly the end I was hoping for, but I suppose it'll have to do. Who am I to argue with the fates?” Even through his obvious pain, Chrom managed to smile. “At least I have you here with me.”

Stop being so dramatic, I'm not about to let you die.” You gave him a stern look as you finally pried the arrow from his shoulder. “See, you're going to be just fine.”

Chrom smiled. “You never cease to amaze me. Tell me, how was it that you found me anyway? I left no note or indication of where I was going.”

“I don't know really, I guess I just figured you'd be here. I knew somehow.” Now that you thought about it, it was rather odd that you were the one that found him. It would have made much more sense for someone with a mount to find him. They could travel much faster and could cover far more ground than you could.

“Well, in any case, I'm glad you did find me.” His eyes were drooping more than before, and you began to fear you might be loosing him.

“Chrom, keep your eyes open okay? I know you're tired, but please, try to keep them open.” You pressed a cloth you'd soaked in herbs and alcohol to his wound. The strong smell mixed with the stinging pain you were sure it caused made Chrom hiss.

“What on earth are you doing to me woman?” Chrom quickly tried to grab your hand, but found he was much too weak to move it.

“I'm drawing out the poison. Sorry, I don't use stave’s an your sister isn't here. So unfortunately, you're going to have to deal with the old fashioned way of doing things.” A bead of sweat rolled down Chrom's pale face as he tried to hold still. His eyes were shut again, and no amount of your begging was making him open them. His breathing began to slow, and his pained expression faded. Fearing the worst, you ran to a clearing and began yelling for help at the top of your lungs. Finally help came, but by his time Chrom was unconscious. You had no choice but to watch as Frederick picked Chrom's limp body up and took him back to camp. With no room left on the horse, you ran back to camp, pushed your way into the tent where Chrom had been placed and watched as Lissa did everything she could to help him.

What seemed like an eternity passed. “I think he'll be okay now.” Exhausted, Lissa took your hand and smiled. “Thank you for finding him.” With tears in her eyes, she hugged you with all the strength she had left. “H-he would have died if you weren't there. I-I can't even thank you enough.”

You returned her hug, relieved that everything was going to be alright. “Lissa, you need to rest. I'll watch over him, I promise.” Too tired to argue, she nodded and left the tent for some much needed, much deserved rest. Alone, you laced your fingers with Chrom's and sat down beside him. After only a short time, you felt your eyelids grow heavy and your body going numb. The adrenaline had worn off and you could no longer keep yourself away. Still holding his  hand tightly in yours, you succumbed to sleep.

The quiet sound of your name being whispered woke you up. You groggily lifted your head and tried to blink the tiredness away. “Hey.” Chrom was awake and smiling at you in a way that made your heart beat fast. “I'm sorry, I didn't think you were actually asleep.”

“No, it's okay. How do you feel? Do you need anything?” All tiredness disappeared as you once again focused solely on Chrom's well being.

“No, no. Calm down.” He slowly shook his head and sighed. “I just needed to tell you something.” With a nervous expression he cleared his throat. “When I was lying there with you before, I realized something. I thought I was sure before, but now...” His face turned red as he took a deep breath in. “I love you, and the thought of dying before I'd had a chance to tell you was almost enough in itself to kill me.” He looked up at you, desperate for you to feel the same.

Salty tears of joy ran down your rosy cheeks as you spoke the only words that could escape your throat.  “I love you too Chrom.”

The smile on his face was enough to light up an entire countryside. “There aren't even words to express how happy you've made me. Now, there's one thing those bandits didn't manage to steal.” His eyes twinkled with excitement. “I'd hoped this would be more romantic.” He forced himself to sit up, and took your hand in his. Gently, he placed a perfectly fitted ring on your finger. “Now you know why I was gone. I'd like, no. I would be the happiest man, in heaven and in earth, if you would be my wife.”

Careful not to hit his wound, you wrapped your arms around him. “Of course.” You pulled back suddenly and grinned at him impishly. “You do realize though, this means I can tease you, pick on you, and embarrass you whenever I want.”

He nodded, chuckling quietly. “Yes, I know, and I wouldn't have it any other way.”
