“Are you completely sure it's okay for me to be here? I'd really rather not get in a bunch of trouble you know.” You walked through the well lit hallways of the unfamiliar building hand in hand with Ronald.
“Of course it's okay, but be quiet, I don't want William to find us.” He gave you a sheepish grin and continued to sneak you through the hallways. After a few moments of hiding in closets and rushing from corner to corner, Ronald took you through a small door with the words “employees only” written on a small plaque. “We should be safe in here. Welcome to the employee lounge.”
Ronald's words were seriously starting to make you have doubts about being here. “Safe? If I'm allowed to be here why are we hiding from all the other shinigami?”
“B-because, I don't want them to, to try to steal you from me.” He nodded. “Yeah, you see, there aren't many girls here, so when there is one, people tend to go just a little bit crazy.”
“Right.” You looked at him with unbelieving eyes. “Well, maybe you should have thought of that a little sooner. When you offered to show me the staffing association head quarters, I kind of thought I'd be seeing more than closets, the men's bathroom and your break room.” You shook your head and sighed. “Maybe I should just head home, it's obvious I shouldn't be here.”
“No, no. You shouldn't leave yet, I haven’t shown you the best part yet. Come on, follow me.” Ronald took your hand and gave it a squeeze. “I promise, you'll like this.” He left the lounge with you and made his way down yet another hallway. The further the two of you went, the dimmer the lights became. “Almost there.” At the very end of the hall, there was a very large, heavy wooden door. Ronald opened the door to a pitch black room.
“I don't even know if I want to see what's in here.” You backed away from the room, slightly worried about it's contents.
“You'll be okay, I promise.” After kissing our cheek, Ronald walked a few steps inside the room and found the light switch. It took a minute for your eyes to adjust. When they did, you were surrounded by glass display cases. “Pretty cool huh?”
“What's in them?” You slowly walked through the room. The items on display didn't seem to be of any real value. “A nail file, toothpicks? Really, who displays this kind of stuff? It's nothing but junk.”
“Well, William keeps it all. And actually, it's not junk.” Ronald took you farther in the room, where the items were worth a bit more. “These are all the weapons Grell has ever had to use. You see, he gets in trouble a lot. And when you get yourself into trouble, you and your weapon get demoted.”
You were having a hard time believing that most of these items could kill. “So, Grell had to kill people, with a toothpick? That seems a little, not too smart. I can understand the chainsaw working, or even this hacksaw. But really, a toothpick?”
“Yeah, I know, pretty crazy right. And you'd think he'd learn after being demoted that much, but he still doesn't get it.” Ronald shrugged. “Anyway, it's pretty fun to play flashlight freeze tag in here. You want to give it a go?” He wiggled his eyebrows at you and drew two small LCD flashlights from his jacket pockets. “I have everything we need.”
It didn't take you any time at all to decide. “Sure, why not? We're probably going to get in trouble anyway, why not have some fun?”
“That's the spirit!” Ronald tossed you a flashlight and ran to turn off the lights. “Get ready.” The lights were switched off and total darkness fell. The items that looked harmless a mere moment ago were much more eerie with the reflections from all the glass surfaces. You walked as quietly as you could, trying to use the flashlight as little as possible. Ronald was no where in site. A sudden beam of light hit you. “You're it now.” He shut off his light and went running into the darkness.
“Wonderful.” You ran in the direction he had gone, hoping to catch him quickly. Unfortunately he had disappeared. “Are you using some kind of special shinigami power to win or what? There's no way you're that fast.” Flicking on the flashlight, you looked in every direction. Ronald was gone. “It's not even right how bad I am at this.” A very quiet creaking noise got your attention. Shining the light in the direction of the noise, you saw Ronald, jumping straight for you. He landed on top of you and sent you both rolling across the floor.
“What's going on in here?” All the lights turned on and loud angry foot steps were coming your way. “Ronald, you had better not have brought another girl in here.'re doing in here
“Shoot, I'm busted. Hide quick.” Ronald grabbed your hand and scurried under one of the displays. “Don't, even, breathe.”
“Perhaps you should follow your own advice.” William grabbed hold of Ronald's ankle and drug him from under the display. “What do you think you're doing in here? You know this room is off limits and you know it.” The look on Williams face was almost enough to make you run. “I've told you a half a dozen times to stop bringing women here. I won't warn you again.” William turned to you, his face now neutral. “Please accept my apologizes, I'm sure you weren't aware of any wrong doing, however I must ask you to leave now. Ronald will see you out.”
You quickly nodded and stood. “S-sorry about this.” You snatched Ronald's hand and went running back to the entrance.
“Hey, Sorry we got caught, and that I lied about it being okay for us to be in there. I just really wanted to show you a good time.” Ronald scratched the back of his head nervously.
“Mhm, Me, and a half dozen other girls.” You crossed your arms, a little upset that he'd played you like he did.
Ronald's face went pale. “We-well I got to go now, I think I hear William calling for me.” He took off towards the building as fast as he could. “See you soon baby.”
“Hey get back here, you still owe me a back massage!”
