“Where in the world could I have put it.  It's got to be in here.” You'd searched in all of your drawers, under your bed and even in every single pocket of everything you'd worn in the last week, but no luck. “I really hope I didn't wash it, that would be awful.” Depressed by your failed search attempt, you dropped down on your messy bed and stared up at the ceiling. “Wait a minute, I wonder if. He wouldn't, would he?” You quickly sat up and rushed down the stairs. “Akihiko, you haven't seen my headphones have you?”

Akihiko was sitting down at the kitchen table reading something and drinking a protein shake. After a few seconds of you staring at him, he looked up at you with an innocent, confused look. “Did you say something?”

“I asked if you'd seen my headphones.” Already more than a little suspicious, you stood uncomfortably close to him and dropped your hand on top of whatever it was he was trying to read. “I had like six different pairs of them just last week, and they've all suddenly gone missing. Junpei admitted to taking one pair, but I can't find any of them.”

“Oh, I see.” Akihiko took a guzzled down his shake and leaned away from the table, allowing him to dig into his shallow pant pocket. “You're talking about these then?” He pulled a tangled mess of cords from his pocket and smiled.

“Yes, I'm talking about those. Now give them back. I seriously need my music.” Every time you tried to snatch the bundle away from him, he moved. No matter what you did, he was just too fast, and the smile on his face let you know that he wasn't about to stop. “Okay, this really isn't fun, or funny. Give me back my headphones before I sock you.”

Akihiko shook his head and sighed. He was obviously disappointed in how quickly you'd lost your temper. “You're not acting very sportsmanlike. When you stole my gloves, I don't remember threatening to hurt you. Actually, I distinctly remember having to beg you for them.” Still not letting you have what was rightfully yours, he shoved the bundle of cords back into his pocket to keep them close. “I don't want you to beg or anything like that. I just want you to win them back, fairly. If you do, we'll be even and we can stop stealing each others stuff.”

“Fine, I guess that's better than nothing.” You couldn't really be mad at him. You had, after all, brought this on yourself. “Name your game. I'll beat you regardless.”

Your enthusiasm erased his disappointed frown and brought a smile to his face. “Good, I'm glad to see you're up for the challenge.” Without explaining anything, Akihiko took your hand in his and started walking towards Iwatodai Station.

As you walked with him, the other girls on the street sneered and glared at you. That was nothing new though. Anytime you were with Akihiko you got jealous looks. Instead of getting nervous, you would milk the situation and hold him even closer. Now clinging to him like an adoring girlfriend, you looked up at him from beneath your lashes and spoke in a smooth, sweet tone. “You mind telling me what the challenge is exactly?”

“Why do you do that whenever we're in public?” Blushing slightly, he used his free hand to run his fingers through his short, white hair. “You were going to hit me a second ago, and now you're acting, weird.”

If there was one thing you'd learned about Akihiko over the years, it was that he was completely oblivious when it came to girls or understanding other peoples emotions. Even if you did like him, you knew he would have never figured it out unless you told him in the most straightforward way imaginable. Even then, he probably would have given you that adorable confused look he made ever so often. Realizing that you were both blushing, and causing an awkward silence to fall, you pushed your thoughts aside and finally answered his question. “Don't read too much into it Aki. I just really like annoying all of your fans.”

That adorable, confused look you'd just been thinking about appeared on his face, making your blush even worse than it was before. “Fans?”

“Yeah, fans.” Refusing to look at him, for fear that he might see your embarrassment, you kept your eyes focused directly in front of you. “I've talked to you about this before you know. Don't tell me you've forgotten already.”

Akihiko let out an awkward chuckle. “I must have spaced out last time or something. I'm Sorry. It's just that you talk a lot when we're alone, so sometimes I stop listening and think about things.”

While what he said sounded pretty mean, you knew he hadn't meant it to be hurtful. He was just ridiculously straightforward. “It's okay. It happens to all of us. Anyway, I know you probably don't notice it, because you're you, but if you'll look around, you'll see that the majority of girls on the street look really angry.”

After taking a quick look around, Akihiko shivered and held your hand just a little tighter than before. “Y-yeah, what's with that? They look ready to tear you apart.”

“Exactly. That's because they're your fans. And by fans, I mean lonely teenaged girls that want nothing more than to date you. Since they all want to date you so badly, seeing me with you fills them with this terrible, jealous rage.” You smirked wickedly. “They really need to get over their obsession, so I like to torment them by making them thing we're a thing.”

“That's kind of cruel. I almost feel sorry for them. But I guess I have had less girls annoying me with sweets and dolls lately.” He sighed. “I'd rather spend time with you than with them anyway. I mean, if they're “My fans” shouldn't they know that I hate sweets?”

You tried not to let his remark make you any more embarrassed than you already were, but your body just wasn't listening. “You'd think so, but I guess not.” You shrugged and cleared your throat. “Now what are we doing at Wild-Duck?”

“Oh, right. If you want your headphones back, you have to eat more of their mystery burgers than I do.” He walked you over to a somewhat secluded booth, away from the noisy children and gossiping teens and sat down across from you. “Obviously, there's no way you'll be able to do it, so if you want to back out now, I'll understand. I wouldn't blame you either.  You're going to be embarrassed no matter what you do though, so it's up to you.”

Completely confident in your own abilities, you pushed out your lips and gave him a smug look. “Don't try to make taunts at me Aki, you're really not very good at it. Now bring on the mystery meat, I'm going to put you to shame.”

“Well, we'll just have to see about that, won't we?” After fifteen minutes of nonstop eating, both you, and Akihiko were far past full and couldn't take another bite of the food. The worst part was that you had both eaten the exact same amount of food. “Unless you take another bite, I get to keep your headphones.”

“A-at this point, I don't even want them back.” You groaned, still amazed at how much you'd just eaten. “I just need to get up so I don't feel like my stomach's full of rocks.”

“That sounds like a really good idea to me.” Akihiko got up and helped you to your feet, also eager to get moving after such a monstrous meal The minute the two of you walked out of the eatery, the glares started. Akihiko of course, was once again oblivious to them. “To be honest, I've never seen a girl eat that much before. It was actually pretty impressive. Impressive enough for you to have these back. Since you didn't lose, I can't say that you didn't win.” He pulled the wires out of his pocket and reluctantly returned them to you. “Now we're even.”

“I guess we are.” You smiled. “We can finally stop stealing each others stuff and act our age. I hope it doesn't get too boring.”

Akihiko started to talk, but was cut off by a group of three girls. All three of them immediately began to tug and pull at him while simultaneously trying to force gifts into his arms. Unsure what to do, Akihiko looked up at you and mouthed your name.

Normally you would have let him suffer just a little bit, but he looked too cute and lost for you to torment. “Excuse me ladies, you all are bothering my boyfriend.” You pushed through them and possessively wrapped your arm around Akihiko's waist. “Now if you could all please just step aside, we should really get back home.”

Thankful for your help, Akihiko wrapped his arm around your shoulders and happily walked away from the crowd. “It's a good thing I had you with me, I really don't ever know what to do when that happens.” He sighed. “I wish they'd give it a break already.”

“You know, I bet if you kissed me, right here in front of them, they'd stop.” You were only joking with him, but Akihiko hadn't realized that.

Stopping mid-stride, Akihiko turned to face you with a someone unsure look on his face. “Seriously? I don't really see how that would help, but if you say so. You know more about this than I do after all.” Since he saw no harm in trying, he pressed his hand against your cheek and gently kissed you for all to see. By the time he pulled away, you face was a deep, crimson red. “Y-you were only kidding with me, weren't you?”

Trying not to show just how much his simple, innocent kiss had flustered you, you nodded. “Yup, that was a joke. But it's too late now. The Aki fangirls saw you kiss me and are probably already planning their revenge on me.”

Akihiko wrapped his arm around your shoulder again and laughed. “That's okay. You protect me from their love, and I'll protect you from their hate.”

You rested your head on his shoulder and joined him in laughter. “I think that just might work.”
