Over the last couple of weeks, you'd taken your level of tormenting Kakashi to the extreme. No matter where he went or how hard he tried, he couldn't escape you. It had gotten so bad, he really didn't even try to stop you from invading his personal space anymore. Though he still acted aggravated and annoyed by you constantly being around him, he had learned to just ignore you in most cases. Unfortunately for Kakashi, ignoring you didn't make you leave, it only made you more determined to get your way.

Just as you had done for the last three days, you stood outside Kakashi's house and waited for him to emerge so you could once again begin tormenting him. Today was different however. It was already an hour and a half past when he normally left the house. Since you hadn't seen him leave, and you knew he wasn't one to stay cooped up in his house all day, you actually started to worry. “I wonder if he managed to hurt himself somehow. Maybe I should, check on him.”

As you lifted your hand to knock on the door, something you didn't normally do, it creaked open, revealing Pakkun. “If you're going to stand there, why don't you make yourself useful?”

“Good morning to you too Pakkun.” You snorted. “What exactly do you mean by useful? Let me guess, you want some more of those treats I bought you last time?”

“Treats would be nice, but that's not what I'm talking about.” Dropping down to a seated position, Pakkun scratched the back of his ear and slowly continued explaining. “Kakashi's sick. He won't leave the house though, because he knows you'll start following him. Once you start following him, he won't get any rest. Since you're already here, maybe you could pick him up something.”

“Sure, I can do that.” Without even asking what was wrong with him, you ran to the store and picked up a half dozen different medicines for Kakashi and a small bag of treats for Pakkun. When you returned, Pakkun was still waiting outside the door.

Glad you'd acted quickly, Pakkun pushed open the door and let you inside. “That was fast. You've got the goods, right?”

“I think so. I didn't know what I needed so I just got everything.” When you closed the door behind you, the entire house went dark. All the lights were off and all the blinds were still shut. It didn't even look like he'd gotten out of bed today. “Is he really sick or something?”

“No, just a cold, I think. Go see him.” The second you tried to do as suggested, Pakkun placed his paw on your foot and sniffed the air. “After, you give me those treats I smell.”

“Oh, right. Here you go.” You quickly handed Pakkun the packet of snacks, then continued to Kakashi's room. Normally you would have barged inside without any sort of consideration, but if he really wasn't feeling well, you didn't want to wake him should he be sleeping. Very, very slowly and as quietly as you could, you cracked open his door and peeked inside. He was lying down, but he wasn't sleeping. The book in his hands made that much obvious.

Even as quiet as you had tried to be, he noticed your presence in an instant. Dropping his book down to his chest, Kakashi let out a tired sigh. “I should have known you'd show up sooner or later.”

“Pakkun was right. You don't sound too good. You don't look all that good either.” Ignoring what he said, you stepped into his room, dropped the bag of medicines on his bed and placed your hand on his forehead. “I'm pretty sure you've got a temperature too.”

The fact that you weren't bugging him about his mask or being annoying in some way or another came as a shock to Kakashi. It was uncharacteristic of your normal behavior and it left him not knowing how to respond. “Pakkun told you I was sick? Why would he do that?”

“Because you're sick and he was worried, obviously.” Positive Pakkun had been right about the cold, you pulled the appropriate medicine from the bag and handed it to Kakashi. “Here, this should help. I'll get you some water or something.” Before he had a chance to protest, you quickly spun around and made your way to his dark kitchen. Having been here so many times before, you already knew where everything was located, so the task didn't take long. When you returned to his room, Kakashi was sitting up with his back against the wall and his head hung forward. “Oh come on, you're acting like you have the plague. You're going to be fine you big baby.” Seeing him like this would have been comical if you hadn't been so worried yourself.

Paying little attention to your taunts, Kakashi took the glass of water you offered and swallowed down the bitter medicine. “Thanks.” He hadn't attempted to hide his face from you, but the darkness made it just about impossible for you to see him anyway. “Look, this was nice of you, but you really shouldn't be here. I know Pakkun let you in, and you're trying to help, but this is weird and it's getting progressively weirder. If it gets any worse, I'll have to let someone know that this has been going on.”

“Come one Kakashi, don't threaten me when I'm trying to be nice to you. Besides, if you wanted to turn me in you would have done it by now I'm sure.” Hearing those words said aloud brought a very interesting question to your mind. “Actually, why haven't you? You've had plenty of opportunities to do it. You've even threatened me a few times. I know you're really laid back and you don't like to make waves, but if I'm really annoying you that much, why not do something to stop me?” Kakashi didn't answer your question. At this point, he wasn't even looking at you anymore. He might not have said anything, but his silence actually told you quite a lot. “Wait a minute, what's with that weird face you're making?” Sure you couldn't be seeing what you thought you were seeing you leaned in closer for a better look. “A-are you blushing?”

“No, I'm not.” He shook his head, immediately denying your accusations. “It's probably just my temperature or something, but I am definitely not blushing.”

“I know the difference between a blush and a fever Kakashi, and that, is a blush. You are blushing about something right now and I want to know what it is.” Refusing to leave until you knew why he was suddenly so red, you sat down on the edge of his bed and stared up at him. “If you don't tell me pretty soon, my brain's going to come up with its own reasons.”

Once you stopped speaking, the room became completely silent and stayed like that for a long time. Though it was difficult for you not to say anything, you remained quiet, waiting for Kakashi to give up and explain himself. When he finally did speak, what he said made very little sense to you. “You're not so bad.”

While your mind was already busy coming up with explanations for what he said, you wanted to make completely sure that you understood him before you got too excited. “What do you mean by that exactly?”

“I mean what I said.” He cleared his sore throat, trying to make his voice less raspy. “You're lazy, aggravating and obsessive, but you're not that bad.”

“So the reason you haven't turned me in yet, and the reason you're blushing right now, is because I'm not so bad? You know, if I didn't know better, I'd think that was a very vague way of telling me that you kind of liked me.” Smiling a goofy, crooked grin, you tapped your chin with your forefinger and pretended to think. “It would all make a lot of sense if that were true. After all, I'm sure if you really wanted to, you could avoid me. I'm a pretty lame ninja, so hiding from me should be no problem for someone like you. Come to think of it, you don't even lock your door most of the time. That right there would do wonders to keep me out.”

As you continued to name reason upon reason why him liking you would make sense, Kakashi slid back down to his pillow and awkwardly pulled the blankets up past his nose to hide his growing discomfort. This was the last sign you needed to know your suspicions were correct. All of his annoyance, agitation and anger had been nothing more than him trying to throw you off the trail. “I'd love to keep discussing this with you, but I'm tired right now. That medicine you gave me must be kicking in.” Feigning a yawn, he closed his eyes and turned away from you. “We can talk about this after I wake up.”

“Fine, you sleep. I'll be here when you wake up anyway.” With a wide, victorious smile on your face, you leaned down to him and kissed his covered cheek. “By the way, I feel like I should let you know, that medicine is the non-drowsy kind.” You chuckled. “Nice try though.”
