The warm, friendly smile on Gregor's rough face instantly disappeared when he turned his eyes towards you. Even in the heavy rain and thick fog, he could see the deep frown resting on your lips. Hating to see you upset, he quickly draped his arm over your soaked shoulders and squeezed your body against his. “Tell Gregor, what is being the matter little one? You are not looking very happy right now. Is there something Gregor can do to bring back that pretty little smile of yours?”

“Are you serious?” Gregor's simple question made you want to scoff. He had to know full well what was wrong, so why would he even bother asking? It was cold, dark, muddy and raining. You, and the rest of the troops, had been walking around, almost nonstop since sun up. On top of everything else, the bitter cold had made your legs go numb, causing you to trip and fall every other step you took. “I'll tell you, but I want you to take a wild guess first.”

Honestly not sure why you would be in such a sour, depressed mood, he released you from his hug, continued walking and slowly stroked his chin. “How long has it been since you were eating last? This much bad mood often comes when you are very hungry.”

“I haven't eaten since we left camp, but that's not the problem.” You lowered your head to sigh, But before you could even open your mouth, a small waterfall of rainwater streamed from the top of your head down your face and right into your shirt. “That's just great.” Groaning angrily, you pulled your wet shirt away from your body and tried to wring it out. “The problem is that I'm freezing, and I'm almost positive that I'm going to end up sick after this.”

“Is true.” Smiling again already, Gregor nodded. “Females are such delicate, weak little blossoms.” Despite the fact that you were still in a terribly unpleasant mood, he let out a loud, boisterous laugh. “This is why they are needing strong man like Gregor to be taking care of them.”

You wanted to argue with him, but after all the times he'd saved your skin over the last couple of years, you knew it was pointless. Instead, you decided to play off of the fact that he considered himself to be so much stronger than you in hopes that you might be able to get something out of it. “Since I'm so weak and delicate, why are you letting me trudge through the mud like this? I could trip, again, and if I did that, I could really hurt myself.” Looking up at Gregor with a pathetic expression resting on your face, you batted your lashes at him and spoke in a pleading tone. “It would be so much easier on me if you would carry me, at least for a little while.”

“Yes, but if Gregor carried you like little princess, he could trip and fall.” With a wry smile, he looked down at you and furrowed his thick brows together. “Gregor landing on you would be much painful than falling alone, no? Is better this way.”

“Yeah, it would. You'd probably crush me like a bug if you fell on me.” Though you still secretly would have preferred to be carried at this point, even if it did mean falling, you nodded in agreement with him. “That's a good point I suppose. I guess all this rain is making me think less clearly that usual.”

“Maybe is so.” Gregor placed his large palm on your wet cheek and stopped you from walking just long enough for him to kiss the tip of your cold, red nose. “Perhaps when ground is not so mushy, then you can be carried.”

“That sounds good to me, so I'm going to hold you to that.” While Gregor had absolutely no problem at all showing you affection in front of the other mercenaries and soldiers, it still made you a little uncomfortable. Every time he so much as hugged you, when there were other people around to see it, you'd break out into a terrible blush. You knew he had to know this by now, especially since you'd told him multiple times. He really didn't seem to care though. Actually, the more you told him that it embarrassed you, the more he seemed to do it. “Do you have any idea how much farther we need to walk? It feels like we've been going all day now. I really can't imagine us needing to go too much further.”

Hoping for a way to tell time, Gregor looked up at the dark sky in search of the sun. The thick, dark, grey clouds, however, made a perfect canopy, completely blocking out any trace of light. “No. Without sun, there is no way to be telling for sure. Best guess, is a long time.”

“Thanks, that was a really helpful observation.” Knowing he was trying to lighten the mood, you let out a quiet chuckle. Even though your sarcasm was overly apparent, Gregor continued to smile. You really weren't even sure how he was managing to smile right now. Other than Henry, he was the only one that wasn't frowning, sulking or complaining in some way or another. Because of his cheery attitude, you tried not to be so gloomy, but as the weather worsened, so did your mood. At this point, it was almost pitch black outside, despite the fact that it was only a little after noon. The sound of the rain, beating against the soft, slippery ground, along with the occasional boom of thunder made it difficult for you to hear. Even so, the worst part had to be the lightning. Each time it would flash through the sky, you would flinch and almost fall. “This is just ridiculous.”

You'd only mumbled out your complaint, but Gregor had heard you loud and clear. “Come now, your pretty little face is going to be forever stuck in that way. Is much easier to be happy than to frown.” Awkwardly stepping behind you, Gregor used his fingertips to lift up the corners of your mouth. “See, is that not better? You should be feeling happier already.”

The fact that he wanted to see you happy so badly made it impossible for you not to at least grin a little bit. “Come on, don't make me happy right now, can't you see I'm trying to be upset. Everyone else is acting gloomy, so I have to be gloomy too. If I'm smiling, people will think I'm some kind of weirdo.” You playfully pushed away his hands and let out a sarcastic, over dramatic groan. “You're making it so hard for me to be angry right now.”

“You are, wanting to be angry?” Judging by the confused look on his face, you could tell that the idea made absolutely no sense to him at all. “Why would you be wanting something like that? I'm not sure that wanting that is normal. Most people want happiness, not anger or sadness.”

“I don't want to be angry, no. But in this situation, I think it's the most natural mood for me to be in.” Though you were still trying to smile for him, it was apparent that your smile was nothing more than an act. “If you look around, you'll notice that pretty quickly.”

Unaware of anyone's mood, other than yours, Gregor finally looked around. It was only after he'd done this that he realized just how dismal everyone's expression was. “Gregor didn't notice all these frowning faces before now.”

“Are you serious?” Actually laughing at how oblivious he was, you wrapped your arm around his bicep and clung to him for support. “How could you not notice that?”

Lifting you off of your feet, despite the fact that the ground was just as slippery and muddy as ever, Gregor held you tightly in his strong, soaked arms and chuckled. “My eyes were on you and no one else, this is how.”

“Oh, I guess that makes sense.” Blushing terribly, you snuggled your body against his and sighed. It felt good to finally be off of your feet, but now you felt a bit guilty that you were being carried. Even so, you knew that if you objected to Gregor carrying you, he'd just laugh your objection off and tell you to be quiet. “You know, I really don't know how you're still managing to smile right now. This rain is going to get a whole lot worse before it gets better, so if you have a secret, I'd really love it if you told it to me.”

“Is no secret, is very easy actually.” Snuggling you close, Gregor stopped walking, gently pressed his lips to yours and kissed you. Knowing he couldn't hold you like this for long, Gregor found a way to make this short, sweet kiss amazingly heartfelt and passionate. Staring down at you in the pouring rain, he smiled the brightest, most sincere smile you'd ever seen. “I keep smiling, because you are Gregor's sunshine.”

Didn't honestly think much of Gregor when I played the game, but this little story changed my mind! His pretty sweet, in his own way.:)
