You walked outside the Phantomhive home, shielding your eyes from the bright sunlight of early morning. It was cool and rather windy for this time of year, but that was probably better suited for what you would be doing today. You quickly made your way to the part of the yard where Finny was pruning the trees, ready to help him with his chores. “Okay Finny, what needs doing? I'm here to help in any way I can.”
Finny quickly turned from the tree he was busy working on and turned to you, smiling happily. “Good morning. It's pretty out here today, isn't it?” He held out a shovel he had close by. “We're replacing these dead plants with new alive ones. So if you don't mind digging the holes for them, I already have the spots marked out. If you don't want to do the digging, I understand. It can be really hard work.”
“No, that's fine, I'm supposed to be helping you after all.” Ready to get things started, you grasped the shovel and quickly went to work. You could tell by the number of posts Finny had placed four markers, there was no way you were going to be able to get your work done. “You usually do all this by yourself?”
“Yup, I don't mind though. Pluto keeps me company a lot, so I don't get lonely. I don't know where he is today, though.” He looked around the yard, scratching the back of his head. “Maybe Sebastian’s giving him a bath.” As you finished digging the holes, Finny was coming behind you, filling them with various plants.
You were actually quite enjoying working with Finny, though it was hard work, and you knew you would be sore in the morning, you were having fun. As you continued working, you heard a strange cracking noise coming from somewhere behind you. “Do you hear that?”
Finny quickly stopped what he was doing and looked around, ears pricked. “I don't hear anything strange, just the birds singing. What does it sound like?”
“I don't know, like something breaking.” You didn't know why, but the sound was really worrying you. It grew louder, until a loud snap, and pop was heard. You turned your head to see a massive, old tree falling directly for you. Frozen with fear, you couldn't speak or move.
“Look out!” Though he'd tried to warn you, Finny knew you wouldn't have time to move before it was too late. He quickly rushed to you, trying to move you out of the falling tree's path, but he was too slow. Scared to death of what was to come, you shut your eyes tight and waited. You could hear the tree come crashing down all around you. Then, everything went quiet. After a moment, you realized you weren't in any pain. “Are you okay?”
You opened your eyes to find Finny holding you protectively with one arm, and holding the tree from falling with the other. His face showed obvious concern. “You saved me.”
“It was really nothing." He blushed. "I'm just glad you're okay.” He gently let go of you, taking the old tree in both hands so he could move it off of you.
“Nothing?” Your jaw dropped as his words echoed in your ears. “Finny, you saved my life. That's not nothing at all. That is a pretty big something if you ask me.” More thankful than you really knew how to put into words, you tackled him back to the ground, hugging him as tightly as you possibly could. "Thank you."
He laughed. “I don't know about that.” Finny blushed. “Sebastian told me to get rid of that tree a few weeks ago. So it's kind of my fault you almost died in the first place.” With his brows suddenly furrowed in worry, he paused. “So, it would probably be better if we didn't tell anyone I saved your life. If you did, it could get me in a lot trouble.” Embarrassed, he let out a nervous laugh.
You joined him in laughter. “Okay Finny, I won't tell anyone if you really don't want me to. You can just be my secret hero.”
“That's sounds like a good idea.” Finny gently hugged you, placing a sweet kiss on your cheek as the two of you cuddled in the grass.

The Common Butler (Grell x Reader) Chapter 2

Like what Grell said in the previous fic, Finny is so sweet! Seriously, I'm getting diabetes over here.
