Literature Text

The moment you saw Edward returning with the last players, you reached your hand into the barrel. Wanting to have picked an item before he returned, you took little care in what you pulled from the pile. “I have an item, which is obviously some sort of liquid, but I'm not sure what it is.”

As you looked at the item from every angle hoping to figure it out on your own, Rhys walked up to meet you. “I apologize for confusing you. That liquid is a special blend of herbs and medicines a drink to keep me healthy.”

“Oh, well that explains why it's such a strange colour.” Being extra careful not to drop his remedy, you handed it back over to him and waited for him to put it somewhere safe.

“Sorry for the wait, are you ready?” Offering you his hand, Rhys smiled a weak, but genuine smile. You gave a nod for your answer and accepted his hand. You knew Rhys was rather frail, but it wasn't until he took your hand that you realized just how frail he really was. His grip was nonresistant and his fingers were incredibly thin. “Here we are, after you.” Still smiling, he lifted up the fabric door of the tent and let you pass through.

Pulling yourself away from your thoughts, you scurried into the tent. “Thank you. I'm glad you said something or I would have just stood there indefinitely.”

“Lost in your daydreams?” He chuckled. “I too am guilty of doing that, and quite often I might add. I think I spend more time writing works of fiction in my mind than I do anything else in this world. One isn't limited in the dreams he or she dreams, so fantasy is a wonderful place to escape when the world we live in has us feeling down.” His face remained unchanged, but there was a wistful look in his eyes. “I'm sorry, my mouth has run away with me again.”

His talking wasn't bothering you a bit. Something about the way he spoke captivated your attention. “No, I don't mind. We are supposed to be getting to know each other in here. What better way to know a person than to have them share their dreams with you?”

“Ah, but I really haven't shared anything at all with you. I've just gone on rambling about nothing while you sit there ever so politely.” Rhys placed his hands on his lap and looked at you with bright, eager eyes. “Please, tell me something about yourself. I would hate for this to be a one sided conversation.”

For some reason, that was the most difficult question anyone could ever ask you. Surely you knew something about yourself worth sharing. Unfortunately, no matter how much you sat there thinking, nothing came to mind. “Well, I like to do stuff. And umm, I think you're pretty interesting. I daydream a lot too, there's that." You sighed, feeling defeated by his question. "I honestly can't think of anything to say.”

Rhys chuckled. “A person can talk about themselves all day when not prompted to do so, but ask them and they suddenly become silent. I wasn't trying to quiet you of course. I really would like to know more about you. It's important to know as much as possible about ones allies.”

“Agreed.” You nodded, quite amazed at how well the two of you were getting along. “Maybe, if you don't mind, you could teach me a thing or two about the medicines you make. I'd like to be more helpful around here, and that might be a good place to start.”

“I would be absolutely honored.” Rhys slowly stood up and brushed himself off. “We should get back to the warmth of the fire though. I fear if I stay in this cold much longer, I may become ill.” Once you were standing, he took your hand in his once more and smiled. “You must remind me to thank Edward for coming up with this game. I doubt the two of us would have ever spoken if he hadn't.”

A powder blush fell over your cheeks. “You're very right. In that case, I suppose I'll have to thank him as well.”

Three things:
I liked very much the way you write Rhys.
Mh... I'm not sure this pairing would be functional. Romantically.
I love how the writing fits the classic Fire Emblem support conversations atmosphere.
