Yuffie happily made her way from the closet, and walked straight over to you. “I've had my eye on you for a while now you know. You're sitting over here squirming like a worm or something. You must be seriously itching to play.” She smiled wide and offered you her hand. “So why don't you go ahead and play next?”
“Seriously?” Trying to hold back a dorky grin you took her hand, stood to your feet and stretched. “Well, if you insist, I won't argue with you.” You placed your hand in Yuffie's hat and pulled out a mall keyring in the design of a chocobo. “Just about everyone likes chocobo's. So I don't have a clue who this might belong to.”
“I guess it's not a very defining item, but it's all I had in my possession.” Ace walked over to you looking rather uninterested in the game. You'd only met him once or twice before, so you really weren't all that sure what to expect. As soon as he was close enough, he took the keyring from you and placed it in his pocket. “All ready then?”
“I absolutely am.” Hoping your hyperness would rub off on him, you grabbed his hand and rushed into the closet. You were already seated next to him by the time Yuffie closed the closet door. Without a word she shut the door with a click, starting your time. “So, I've seen you around once or twice, but I don't really know you very well. That being said, us not knowing each other is no reason for us to be awkward. So don't be.” You smiled wide, despite his apathetic expression.
Ace gently nodded. “Alright, I'll do my best not to be awkward then.” Once his sentence was out, he went silent. He was doing the opposite of what he just said.
Clearing your throat, you ended the silence and began to speak once more. “So, you know it only takes about four seconds of silence for a situation to become awkward right? I wasn't sure if you knew or not, since you just got all quiet on me.”
A barely noticeable smirk appeared on his face. “I didn't know that actually.” Once again he stopped speaking after only a single, short sentence. You were beginning to suspect that this might be a little game to him.
Lifting yourself onto your knees, you leaned in closer to him and squinted your eyes. Now noticing his smirk, your thoughts were confirmed, at least in your mind.“You're doing this to me on purpose aren’t you? I ask you not to be awkward, so you decide to be as awkward as humanly possible.” You sighed. “That's not a very nice thing to do you know.”
Ace shook his head, denying your claim. “I'm doing nothing of the sort. Silence isn't awkward for me. If it bothers you, perhaps you should fill the silence.”
You narrowed your eyes further as you poked an accusing finger against his chest. “You, might be right, but that doesn't necessarily mean I'm wrong. But, since we can't know for sure who's right, let's move on to something else.”Leaning back to sit on your feet, you placed your hands neatly in your lap. “Since we are locked in a closet, and we are playing a game, I'd like to kiss you some time before our time is up.”
“You would huh?” Ace raised an eyebrow, honestly not sure how he felt about your idea.
“Yes, and I don't plan on letting you stop me.” Expecting him to move away, or at least try to avoid you, you tackled him before he had a chance. To your surprise, he didn't even try to get out of the way. Unfortunately, his indifference made things a bit uncomfortable. “Don't even try to fluster me out of doing this, it won't work.” Determined not to let him win this imaginary battle, you kissed him square on the mouth. And though you were proud of yourself for not giving in, the kiss was more awkward than you could have ever imagined.
Ace just sat there looking bored until you finally squirmed away. “Happy now?”
Standing to your feet, you let out a little snort and crossed your arms in front of your chest. “No, not exactly. You didn't kiss me back, and the actual kiss was lame. I blame you for this.”
Yuffie opened the door just in time to hear your complaints. “Well not all matches can be winners.” She gave you a gentle pat on the back. “At least you got a kiss, and at least you didn't have to spend your turn with Hojo like that poor girl does.”
You shivered at the sight of Hojo with his arm around one of the younger girls. “Never mind Ace, I'm happy, I'm very, very happy.”
