As you woke from a peaceful, restful sleep, a familiar and very unwelcome smell filled your nostrils. Sure it was just your dream doing it's best to lingering into yourreality, you tried to stretch yourself awake. This simple task, however, was completely impossible for you to do. Your wrists and legs were bound with strong Velcro straps, securing you to a what looked like a hospital bed. Most people in this position would have screamed or at least felt some sort of fear. You only felt annoyed. Aggravated beyond belief, you opened your mouth and yelled for your captor. “Lloyd, this has really gone way too far now. Get over here and release me before I get really angry.”

A few short seconds later, Lloyd walked in wearing a long white lab coat and puffing on an almost completely depleted cigarette. Smiling crookedly, he pressed the glowing butt into a ceramic white tray and stood next to you. “So you finally decided to wake up. Splendid.”

The bright florescent light over head burned your eyes as you glared up at him. “Would you mind telling me why I'm here? It's bad enough that you show up at my house whenever you please, but kidnapping is just a little much, don't you think?” You struggled against your restraints again and growled. “And take these stupid things off of me. I don't like being restrained.”

“One question at a time, please. We wouldn't want to get ahead of ourselves, now would we?” Lloyd thoughtfully stroked his chin as he pulled small, metal table, filled with different medical instruments closer to your bed. As he pressed his thumb against the sharp blade of a fresh scalpel, a tiny seed of fear planted itself in your chest.

Trying not to let your fear show, you swallowed hard and spoke in a firm tone. “What exactly do you plan on using that for? If you don't need it, I'd really like it if you put it down and didn't torment me with sharp objects.”

Lloyd placed the sharp object on the tray only to lift another one into his gloved hand. “Another question? I haven't even answered your first one yet.” He shook his head, smirking in a strangely horrifying way. Though his general appearance wasn't even the least bit troubling, you knew he could be dangerous when he wanted to be. Being tied down to a bed while a slightly deranged man tested out different medical tools on himself was enough to make just about anyone shutter, and you were no exception. “I'll just have to add that one to your growing list.”

Becoming more worried with each passing second, you raised your voice almost to the point of yelling and desperately tried to pull your hands free of the rough, unforgiving material. “Well, start explaining then. I'm not stopping you here.”

“If you keep struggling that way, you're going to hurt your wrists.” Instead of untying you, he placed the sharp, gnarly looking tool onto the tray, pushed it away and pulled a chair next to your bed so that he could sit down. Relaxing into the sterile looking seat, he dug into his pocket and lit another smoke. “I believe your first question asked why you were here.” With a flick of his thumb, a bright flame exploded from the small lighter he held in his hand and singed the end of his cigarette. “That question is rather obvious. You're here because I brought you here. Why did you bring me here, would have been a better question.”

You tried to snort the strong, sulfuric, smoke out of your nose before you could breathe it in. “Okay then, answer that question for me instead. Why did you bring me here?”

Lloyd gently shook his head. “Unfortunately, I don't think I can't tell you that at this time. You see, I don't think you'd like the answer.”

“Then why did you even bring it up?” You dropped your head back down to the sad excuse for a pillow and sighed. At this point you'd given up asking him to let you go. He wasn't going to do anything until he felt like it. And as long as it was something you wanted, he wasn't going to feel like giving it to you. “It's like you enjoy making me mad or something. It's sick and weird. Seriously, what's wrong with you?”

As another large cloud of suffocating smoke erupted from his mouth, Lloyd rested his elbow on the side of your bed, then leaned his head against his hand for support. “If you keep asking all these questions, we'll never get anywhere.”

Wanting nothing more than to slap him as hard as you could, you narrowed your eyes so that they were little more than thin slits and spoke in a very low, angry tone. “Fine, I won't speak until you give me permission. Just stop stalling and tell me what's going on.”

“Good, now maybe I can make my intentions clear.” Lloyd stood up and slowly paced around the room. He walked through the room silently. By the time he finally spoke, the sound of the old, ticking clock had become like drums, pounding in your ears. “I believe you possess something special. There's something about you that's different. I don't know exactly what that something is, but I'm eager to find out. Until I do find out what it is, don't expect me to leave you alone.” He leaned over the side of your bed, hand on his chin and smiled. “We've already established that you like the attention that I give you, so I'm sure you won't mind me following you around too awful much.” Smoke rose from his nostrils as he quietly chuckled. “Correct?”

Taking his question as permission to speak, you shook your head and immediately disputed him. “I can't count the number of time's I've told you this, but I absolutely do not want your attention. Yes, having someone notice you is nice, but what you're doing isn't. What you're doing is creepy, weird and extreme. Therefor, I would mind you stalking me, and I'd mind it a lot.”

“I see. That is rather unfortunate, isn't it? It certainly puts a damper on things, no question there.” With a thoughtful expression, Lloyd dropped down to his seat again and silently puffed on his dwindling cigarette. After taking a moment to think, he looked down at you and smiled honestly. “Stalking is a strong word. Isn't there another one we could use. Observing, is a much less threatening word.”

“Call it whatever you want, it's still unpleasant and unwelcome.” Knowing Lloyd, even as little as you did, you really doubted that your disapproval would mean anything at all to him. He deemed most humans as little more than living test subjects, useful for nothing more than experiments and acquiring new knowledge. When he was through with them, he threw them out with the garbage. Even knowing this, you still felt the need to let him know that you were definitely against his plan. An awkward silence filled the small hospital like room. The look on his face, and the deafening silence almost made you feel guilty. “I shouldn't have to tell you this you know.”

“I do know actually. However, I see no harm that was done in me hoping for the unanticipated.” Leaning over your bed again, he slowly began untying your restraints. “If no one ever tried to do what others deemed impossible, the world wouldn't have progressed very far, now would it have?”

“I guess not. But this is different.” Glad to finally have your legs and arms free, you rubbed your wrist and sighed. “I can't believe you actually thought I'd be okay with you following me around. I avoid you whenever I can, why would I want or allow you to do that?”

Lloyd helped you off of the bed and chuckled. “That's another question I won't answer. Once again, you really wouldn't like my answer.” He roughly grabbed you by your elbow and began leading you through the maze like building to the front door. Once there, he swung the door open, exposing your eyes to the bright sunlight and gave you a little push. “Now, since you're not going to be of any actual help to me, I'd like it if you left. I'll have to gather my information without your help or knowledge, it seems. You're no longer any good to me here, so go on.”

Just before you stepped outside the door, you turned to him with a confused look on your face. “I still have no idea why you brought me here in the first place you know. You didn't accomplish anything at all by stealing me. It seems to me like this whole thing was just a massive waste of our time. I'm going to ask you again, but I know I probably won't get a straight answer.” With a final sigh, you looked up at him and repeated your earlier question. “Why did you bring me here?”

“You obviously have many, many questions locked up in that mind of yours. But I just don't have the time to answer them all for you.” Once again, Lloyd evaded your question, answering it only with a promise you doubted would ever come to pass. “You'll understand everything, in time. Now go, before I change my mind.”
