Your mouth and heart dropped the very moment you entered the tiny room that was to be your office. Sure, you'd expected to be doing some work, but not like this. “This has got to be a joke. There's no way this is a weekends worth of work.” The floor was so littered with envelopes and papers, you could barely even walk. “Nope, this isn't going to happen.” Without picking up a single piece of paper, or doing even a minute of work, you shut the door and marched straight to Gaara's office. “Gaara, are you busy right now? I really need to ask you about something.”

The office door slowly creaked open as you started to knock on it. Gaara was sitting at his desk, looking a bit stressed out over something. The look on his face made you think twice about going to talk to him. Without even looking up from his desk, he waved you in. “It's open.”

“Well, now it is.” You walked into his office and flopped down in the chair across from his desk. “So, I need to ask you a question about the work I'm supposed to be helping you out with. I don't mind helping, that is my job after all, but have you seen the amount of work piled up in my room?”

“No, I haven't actually.” Sensing that something was wrong, Gaara turned his attention from his work, to you. “Is there something wrong?”

“Yes, actually, it's crazy in there. There's stuff all over the place. I mean it's really just ridiculous.” You sighed. “Come here, it might just be better if I show you.” Ignoring the fact that he was both your boss, and the  Kazekage, you grabbed his hands and pulled him away from the desk. “I think once you see it you'll understand.” You pushed open your door and with a large, exaggerated motion, signaled him to look inside. “I can't do all of that.”

“You shouldn't have this much work. I only have you working on non-essential paperwork.” Gaara walked into the messy office and picked up one of the many papers that were strewn across your floor. After looking at several other letters, a smile appeared on his face. “You didn't look at any of these, did you?”

Knowing that you'd already done something stupid, you slowly shook your head. “No, I was too freaked out to even look.”

“That explains it.” He placed the handful of letters he'd looked through in hands and walked over to your almost empty desk. After looking through the small pile there, he nodded, now sure of his theory. “The only work you have is right here on your desk. The letters on your floor are from the academy students. They're welcome letters no doubt.”

“Are you serious? I called you in here for nothing then?” Too embarrassed to even think straight, you ripped into several of the envelopes, he was right. Each one contained a messily written note welcoming you to Sunagakure. “Well then, I feel pretty stupid right now.” Dropping onto your hands and knees, you quickly started to gather up the remaining letters. “Sorry I drug you here for something so stupid. I guess I should have looked first.”

“You're probably right. It is only your second week working here though, so don't worry about it.” Though Gaara had agreed with you, he didn't seem to be even the slightest bit upset. If anything, he was actually a bit amused by your rather sporadic attitude.

You picked up the last of the letters, placed them on your desk and then turned around to stare at him. “Are you, laughing at me?”

Gaara slowly shook his head, suddenly looking very confused. “No.”

“Really, because I could have sworn I heard you chuckling a second ago.” Once again ignoring his position, you walked up to him, standing uncomfortably close and glared. “You aren't lying to me right now, are you? Because it would be really bad if the Kazekage was a liar.”

Your unnecessary closeness made obviously made him very uncomfortable, but he didn't try to back away or make you move. Somehow, he managed to keep his face relatively expressionless and his voice completely even. “I can assure you, I wasn't laughing. Now if there's nothing else, I should probably get back to work. I have a meeting a little later and I don't want to keep anyone waiting.”

Before he could walk away, you grabbed on to his cloak and stared at him as intently as you could manage. “I don't believe you. I'm sure I heard a laugh. And since there's no one else in here, that means it had to have been you.”

Gaara sighed, quickly getting annoyed by the whole situation. “I didn't laugh, however, if you'll let me go I'll admit to doing it.”

You opened your mouth to speak, but were interrupted by the sound of something falling and hitting the floor. “Never mind, I believe you now.” The sound had come from the tiny corner closet in your office. Someone, or something must be hiding in there. Walking very slowly and cautiously, you approached the closet and swung open the door.

“Hey there you two.” Of all the people you expected to see hiding out in your closet, you never would have expected to see him. “I heard you got a new lady secretary and I just thought I'd come see how things were going. I didn't know you'd stolen her from The Leaf.” No longer able to stay in the cramped space, Naruto fell to the floor and groaned. “That probably wasn't the best place for me to hide.”

You looked down at Naruto and then up at Gaara with hopeful eyes. “Can I kick him for spying on me?”

Your unexpected question brought a smile to Gaara's face. “No, you can't kick him.” Quickly resuming his stern expression, Gaara helped Naruto off of the floor. “Naruto, why are you really here? There was no reason for you to hide in the closet if what you said before was true.”

“O-oh, I guess you're right.” Instead of answering, Naruto rubbed the back of his head and let out a very nervous laugh. “Man, what's with you two being so serious? There's no need to glare like that you know?” He took a couple of steps back only to be stopped by the very closet he'd been hiding in. “Okay, fine, I'll tell you. The last time Temari was in Konoha, she said something about you and your new secretary having a weird dynamic, whatever that means. I just wanted to check it out for myself. I don't know what it is, but you two do have a pretty weird relationship going on.” He smiled in a strange, suggestive way as he pushed past you and Gaara. “And now that I've seen this first hand, I'm off to The Leaf to share my findings.”

Neither you, nor Gaara even attempted to stop him as he ran off. You were both too confused by his explanation. “I really have no idea what he was talking about.” Gaara hung his head slightly. “And quite honestly, I'm still not entirely sure why he was even here.”

“Me either. Everyone already knows you have a crush on me, so I don't know why he'd need to come all the way out here just to see what everyone already knows.” You smirked up at him. “Now I really need to do this before I talk myself out of it.” Moving quickly, you pulled off the Kazekage headdress from Gaara's head and placed it on yours. One look and you could tell that he wasn't at all entertained by your actions. “What, does it not suit me or something?”

Gaara let out a loud sigh. “You've done this before, now please give it back.” He held his hand out, expecting you to do as he'd asked.

“Wait a minute. This thing actually keeps you cool.” Your mouth dropped. “No wonder you can go around wearing such heavy clothing. This hat thing is awesome.”

His expression was a mix of annoyed and embarrassed. Though you could understand why he'd be annoyed with you, you couldn't figure out why his cheeks would have suddenly turned so red. “It's not a hat thing, now please.”

You clung to the flowing fabric and vigorously shook your head. “No way, you're not getting this back until I've gotten used to the heat. I need it.” Still holding tightly to his hat, you started running down the hall in the same direction Naruto had gone.“You can have it back then.”

Gaara pressed his fingers to his temples and breathed in a deep breath in an attempt to calm himself. “I've really got to find a way to make her listen.”
